Thanks to medical advancement, the life expectancy worldwide is getting longer. However, the new challenge is how can elderlies remain healthy and socially active. What is the secret to stay mentally young? How can seniors maintain a healthy and energetic lifestyle? Why do some people appear younger and some much older even if they are of the same age? These are questions that life scientists as well as social scientists have been trying to tackle in the past decades. Until now, ageing research in Germany has concentrated on understanding and treating diseases associated with ageing. In contrast, the Leibniz Research Alliance on Resilient Ageing aims to take on an effective and active approach to provide answers to what people can practice against the aging process.
Leibniz Research Alliance on Resilient Ageing combines the expertise of fourteen Leibniz Institutes and one associate Leibniz Institute to set up a highly interdisciplinary and coherent research agenda to investigate topics on ageing and resilience. Researchers from the fields of medicine, psychology, the natural sciences, sociology and economics, cooperate and conduct joint projects to analyze the interactions between biological-medical and socio-economic aspects. The work will culminate in the development of new intervention and adaption strategies for promoting resilient ageing over the long term.
